Through the Community Education division, NTI offers a wide array of classes, most of which are designed as short courses to benefit business, industry, and the general public. These classes present the opportunity for students to learn and upgrade skills, earn continuing education credits, or take classes just for enjoyment. Fees for the classes are dependent on the length of the class in hours and the cost of consumable supplies.

Classes are generally held in the evening from 6 - 9 and are packaged for those who work during the day - or those who prefer multiple sessions rather than one day, intensive six hour classes. We offer custom training specific to the needs of your company upon request.

Class Descriptions

HVAC Module I

An 11-week course, 66 hours, beginning in September and ending in November. This module offers a sound foundation to this field, beginning with proper safety and work habits. Students then work with electrical theory, schematics and wiring diagrams, and proper use and reading of test meters. The class also covers 1 phase, 3 phase and Wye and Delta power service as well as motors, controls and safety devices.

HVAC Module II

An 11-week course, 66 hours, beginning in January and ending in March. This module covers basic air conditioning: cooling systems, components, and sizing.

HVAC Module III

An 8-week course, 48 hours, beginning in April and ending in June. This module covers basic heating, duct work, and sizing.

Small Gas Engine

This course covers basic theories of operation of small gas engines. Hands on work and disassembly, wear analysis and assembly of an engine.

Machine Shop

Basic operation of machine tools will be covered in this course. Safety, operation, and methods will be covered.

Auto Maintenance & Light Repair

Learn how to maintain your own vehicle such as minor brake jobs and oil changes.

Auto Air Conditioning

The basics in auto air conditioning will be covered. Troubleshooting and maintenance of the system will also be addressed.  

Horseshoeing

This course covers basic and advanced horseshoeing techniques. Horseshoeing is held off campus at 9900 Price Coffey Road between Bentonville and Pea Ridge on Highway 72. For further information you email Dr. John Werner.

Beginning Spanish

Learn to speak, read and understand basic Spanish grammatical concepts and Spanish terms and phrases that are commonly used in any environment.

QuickBooks

QuickBooks provides an in-depth approach to computerized accounting. The course uses the QuickBooks accounting software that is used in many service-based and merchandising businesses.

Medical Coding

The medical coding class teaches fundamental coding skills and prepares the student to take the CPC certification exam from the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC). The class will focus on physician-based (outpatient) coding. Students will learn to review medical documentation and assign the correct procedure and diagnosis codes from the CPT, HCPCS, and ICD-9-CM coding manuals. It is a 15-week, 90-hour course that meets on Monday and Wednesday evenings from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. There will be a class in the spring semester and a class in the fall semester. The cost is $250.

Introduction to Microsoft Office 2007

This class covers practical skills for using Excel, Word and PowerPoint. Our instructors focus on the fundamentals as well as providing tips and tricks that save you hours. This class is for true beginners as well as those who are self-taught but no doubt missed some steps along the way.

Excel I 2007

This class concentrates on the Creation of useful spreadsheets and writing of formulas. People often teach themselves Excel without really understanding how to write and use formulas. Emphasis is placed on practical application. Worksheets produced in the class include tracking sales, calculating mileage reimbursement, creating a check or petty cash register, and determining averages and creating charts.

Excel II 2007

The class begins with a thorough review of basic concepts covered in our first Excel class. Then we solve real world problems such as figuring percent markup and markdown and building graphs to represent data. We cover sorting and filtering data, macros and pivot tables, subtotals, and using functions such as the IF and PMT functions. Brief attention is given to the drawing toolbar.

Word I 2007

This class covers practical skills for using MS Word. Students will create basic documents and edit them by deleting, correcting and inserting text. Emphasis is placed on Word tools such as Spelling, Grammar, Word Count, Thesaurus and Autocorrect. This class is for true beginners as well as those who are self-taught but no doubt missed some steps along the way..

Word II 2007

This second-level Word class concentrates on a variety of advanced features, beginning with tables. Truth? If you don’t know (and use) tables, you don’t really know all there is to know about Word. This class is especially helpful to those in a work setting who need to take their use of this program to a higher level (administrative assistants, writers, marketing reps, small business owners, etc.) We cover advanced techniques and shortcuts to save time.

Beginning AutoCAD

The introductory course in Computer-Aided Drafting covers the basic language used by the industry to communicate ideas and plans from the creative design stage through production. Students create a variety of drawings of various sizes by use of computer-aided drafting equipment.

Revit

REVIT for Design & Build takes an in-depth view of means and methods used to create professional documents for professional communication. The completer of this course can expect to be well introduced to the user interface of REVIT Architecture as well as other 3D software applications used for (BIM) Building Information Modeling. (Exposure to other 3D software interfaces may include: Rhino, 3DsMax, REVIT Structure, MEP & 3D in AutoCAD2009.)

Basic Welding

Students learn the basics of welding beginning with safety and first aid. Also covered are tools and equipment, metals and metallurgy, basic math and measuring, welding print reading, and basic welding joints and symbols. Students produce welded pieces for instructor feedback. Special attention is given to safety procedures.

Apprenticeship Welding

The apprenticeship welding program is designed to train students from the basics through the advanced techniques. The welding course runs for 180 hours over a 30-week period. Class meets two day per week, three hours per session. This is a two-year program beginning in September and ending in May of each year.

Digital Photography

Learn the basics of digital SLR photography. This class will cover exposure, lighting, composition, and color spaces. The class will also utilize the special features of your camera. Learn to shoot your camera in manual mode with confidence! Instructor: Diana Michelle Hausam.

Basic Photoshop

Learn the basics of Photoshop beginning with opening a file in Photoshop to altering your images. Subjects that will be covered include: exposure adjustment, color adjustments, altering your images, and working with layers. Instructor: Diana Michelle Hausam.
